National Breastfeeding Week
National Breastfeeding week is August 1 - 7, 2008
I have been privileged to be able to breastfeed my baby for the past year. I know many mothers who wish to breastfeed their babies but have not been able to do so.
There are many benefits to breastfeeding. Statistics show that breastfed babies are healthy and have less chance of getting allergies when they are older.
Breastfeeding is also beneficial for the mother. Breastfeeding lowers the risk of breast and ovarian cancers, and possibly the risk of hip fractures and osteoporosis after menopause.
Eventhough many people have mixed opinions about breastfeeding, I think it just shows that the mothers who have this opportunity care enough to provide that child with a healthy life.

Happy Mother's Day!!!
I hope that all the mothers who read my blog had a great day surrounded by your loved one.
My first mother's day was great. We all headed to Crandon Park to spend the day there. Jayme (my boss) had planned a day at the beach for his family and the invitation was extended to friends and their relatives. At first I thought of just going for a few hours but we ended up being at the beach for about 5 hours.
Today was also Felipe's first trip to the beach. We had taken him to the beach when he was only 2 months old but he had never been in the ocean. Just as I imagined, he loved being in the water. He was kicking and laughing eventhough he was exhausted. We were in the water for about 45 minutes when Felipe started to doze-off on my shoulder. This was my signal that I should take him back to the picnic area so that he could sleep comfortably in his stroller. I barely made it to the showers without him falling asleep. I had my mom and Osmart singing to him so that he wouldn't fall asleep and I could wash off all the salt water before he took his afternoon nap.
Before we got out of the water my mom was making him "swim". He was loving the water and when my mom held him in the swimming position, he would kick his little feet. He is a video so you can enjoy it as much as we were.

I really enjoyed my day and look forward to spending many more like these with Felipe.

Happy Mother's Day
Although I am not a mother yet I do have a bun in the oven and boy it is growing....I celebrated my first mother's day with my mother, grandmother and mother-in-law by having a brunch at my house, but enough of that... This post is just to update everyone on how I am doing... I am now 29 weeks and 1 day. As you can see from the picture, I am growing exponentially. This little boy is kicking away. It just gives me great joy to feel his kicking eventhough it does get annoying when I am trying to sleep and he starts to kick at 4 in the morning.
Hope all the mothers, mothers-to-be and grandmothers had a great day surrounded by family.
I say good-bye for now but I will post another update on Thursday when I get back from my doctor's appointment. I will be getting the glucose test done that day so I will probably be cranky most of the morning because I can't eat anything until after the blood test.
