Happy 90th Birthday

Today I want to wish Maria, my mom's mother-in-law, a Happy 90th Birthday.  Eventhough her birthday was a few days ago today we had a big celebration for her with family and friends.

It was a surprise party and it turned out great.  At first when she arrived she didn't realize it was for her...  She said hi to everyone and then when she finally sat down she looks at my mom and asks "Is this party really for me?".

It was nice to be able to celebrate such a huge milestone.

Francesca's New Bed

We finally gave up and got Francesca a toddler bed.

We wanted to wait a bit longer but realized that she already knew how to climb into her crib so there wasn't anything stopping her from trying to climb out of her crib.  As many of you know her crib is up on a platform above Felipe's bed so that last thing we wanted was her going head first onto the floor.

So yesterday we went and got her a toddler bed. Tonight will be her first night in her new bed.  Let's hope she has a good night.  I will keep you posted.

My little girl is growing up...

Today Francesca will be 7 months old and I just finished putting her in her crib. It has taken me this long to release the cord and allow her to sleep in the other room.

I am not sure if what was stopping me was the fact that I can't see both Felipe & Francesca through the monitor or just that I wanted to keep her within arms reach.

Whatever the reason I finally had to concede because she was getting to big for the bassinet.

My little girl is getting older by the minute and I can't do anything to stop her.

New Years at the Mejia House

We brought in 2010 at the Mejia's... All the kids made it to midnight except Francesca who fell asleep at around 11.

As usual we just sat around and watched TV until the New Years countdown. After midnight we sang Happy Birthday to Ren and cut him a cake. A little while later the Dufaus and the Rivadeneiras left.

We continued to party "hard" by playing Rock Band. Everyone but me participated in one way or another except me (I was the official photography/videographer).

I am not sure if the music woke up Francesca or just hunger but at around 1 am she started crying and I went to get her. She enjoyed the afterparty.

Francesca's First Christmas

Noche Buena was spent at my mom's house. We had dinner and then mingled for a while before going to midnight mass.

Felipe was so tired from running around my mom's house that he fell asleep before the mass even started. Francesca on the other hand was awake throughout the whole mass and the ride home.

Christmas Day we had our traditional breakfast at my mom's, we opened presents and then went to my mother-in-law's house for lunner.

The kids got lots of great and useful gifts this year.

Later on tonight we are going to the Dufau's for our annual "Grupito" gathering except this year we are not giving out any gifts to the kids. The economy was tough on all of us.

Trip to the zoo

Today we went to the zoo after having the tickets for almost 6 months...

We had purchased tickets online sometime in May but by the time we got to the zoo that day it was raining so they told us we could use them any other day. Today was such a beautiful and cool day that we decide to take advantage and go walk around.

It was Felipe's second trip and Francesca's first but this time around Felipe really enjoyed pointing at all the animals and saying their names.

Enjoy our pictures

The Modern Flintstones

Last night was Francesca's 1st Halloween...

We weren't sure what to dress up the chldren as this year but since my son is so mischevious we decided that he would be Bamm Bamm and from there stemmed the idea of all of us being the Flinstones.

My mom made all our costumes and we went Trick-O-Treating by our friend Mery's house.

It was a nice night and we got lots of candy.

Francesca's First trip to the beach

Yesterday we took a trip to the beach... At first I was not planning on taking Francesca into the water but when we got there the water was so calm that we decided it would be OK...

When we first took her into the water she got a bit upset until she got use to the water temperature. She really enjoyed the ocean and apparently will love the water just like her brother.

If you would like to see some photos look at the album labeled First trip to the beach on our mini-site.

My children are growing up to FAST!!!

Last night we had Felipe sleep in his own BED for the first time and he actually stayed there all night. He woke up at around 5:30 am calling out to us and that is when we brought him to our bed.

Francesca also slept through the night (from 11 pm to 5:30 am)... Is that normal at one month???

The milestones begin...

Today Francesca is 2 weeks old and the milestones have begun....

3 days ago I ventured to bathe her all by myself and she loved it. I am not sure if it is the fact that I did it under the skylight in my kitchen or that she just loves to be bathe.

Yesterday in the morning she woke up with no umbilical cord stump because it fell off during the night. Before anyone asks... I did save it.

That is all for today... I will continue to post as the milestones continue.

In the meantime enjoy the photos in our mini site.

Francesca's Birth Story

On Saturday at around 10 am we were getting ready to go to Costco to buy stuff for Felipe's small birthday party but it started to rain so Adrian told me we should wait for it to stop. Since we weren't going out I started to pick up some clothes that I had washed. A little while later I went to the bathroom and saw some blood in my urine so I freaked out and called Daymarys, my midwife. Her first question was "Are you having any contractions?". I had been feeling great so I said no but that the blood had worried me. She assured me that it was normal and to keep her posted if I started to have contractions.

At around 11:08 am I started having contractions but I didn't call my midwife immediately because I wanted to make sure they were real and consistent. So around 1:15 I called her and told her what was happening and she asked me to keep monitoring my contractions and if they got any closer than the 5 to 7 minutes that they had been to call her. If everything continued the same then she just wanted me to go see her at 4 so she could check me out and see if I was ready.

I arrived at the birthing center at around 4:30 pm. When the midwife did her exams she gave me the bad news that I was only 4 cm dilated. She gave me the choice to go home or just go walk around. I chose to go walk around the Publix that was across the street. At about 6 we returned to the center and I had only dilated another centimeter.

By this time Daymarys chose to keep me there so I started walking around the center and sitting on the exercise ball. Aside from all this Adrian started working on some pressure points that were suppose to induce labor.

At around 9:30 my water broke while I was in the bathroom.

Felipe's First Pony Ride

Earlier this morning we took Felipe on his first pony ride. Adrian had found out that next to his job on the weekends they have pony rides. You can have your kid ride for as long as they want for only $5.

Since it was nice and sunny this morning we decided to take him. He loved it and was on the pony for about 30 minutes. We had to cut it short because I couldn't take the walking any more.

In pregnancy news....

I am currently 32 weeks and GROWING!!!

Everything is going great and little Francesca is kicking up a storm. I think she is going to be more active than her brother.

I will post photos of the pony ride and updated belly shots tomorrow.

I might start to lose weight...

Today my grandmother had to take care of Felipe for a little while because Adrian had to go see his grandfather in the hospital (He is ok they are just running some tests). When Adrian got back home to pick Felipe up, my grandmother told him that apparently the baby had walked across the playpen without holding on...

AHHHHHHHH... He starting to walk...

I guess that is a good way to lose weight... Chasing a 1 year old around the house.

Felipe is growing up TOO FAST

Yesterday we finally installed the convertible car seat in Adrian's car...

Felipe loves being in this new seat because now he gets to look out the window and see everything.

The funny thing about the whole transition is that when we first put him in he was actually asleep so he didn't realize that he was being put into a new seat. This morning when I put him in at first he was confused because he didn't know what was happening but soon he was smiling and enjoying his new accomodations.

Felipe and his 12 month Checkup

We took Felipe for his 12 month check-up today and everything is going great. He is weighing 21 lbs and mesuring 30 inches.

He behaved like an angel for the doctor except when she was trying to check his ears... This is expected cuz he does not like to be pinned down to the bed. Lately he has been trying to be very independent. A few days ago he was standing in our bathroom holding on to one of the vanity drawers and he actually let go & was standing unassisted for about 3 seconds. When he realized this he quickly grabbed a hold of the nearest stable object (vanity door handle).

That is it for now...

Felipe's 1st Birthday Celebration

Felipe celebrated his first birthday surrounded by family and friends.

The first celebration was in Lady Lake because we had gone up there to celebrate my father's 10 year wedding anniversary. My dad and Laura did a small gathering at their villa and invited family and some close friends.

At around 7:30 pm we arrived home after a long 5-hour ride home and celebrated with my mom, my mother-in-law, who had baked a cake for Felipe, and a friend.

A weekend of Festivities

This past weekend was full of festivities...

On Friday night we celebrated my father's 10 year wedding anniversary with a dinner at La Hacienda Country Club in The Villages.

Saturday morning before leaving Lady Lake, my father did a small party for Felipe at his Villa. Laura's family and mine sang Happy Birthday and cut him a cake. At night when we got back home, my mother-in-law had baked a bundt cake for Felipe.

Yesterday, we had a party for all the family and close friends.... I would like to say that it was a small party but when you have 16 kids and about 45 adults in your house it can not be considered SMALL.

I will post more details and photos later today but for now this is all you are getting....
